Privacy Policy
- There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your location is used only to find what’s near you, and only while you’re using the app.
- We have no server that stores your information, and we never sell or share it.
This policy explains how the Somewhere To Be app for iPhone and iPad (“the app”) and this website handle information. “We” and “us” mean the developer of Somewhere To Be.
Information the app uses
| What | Why | Where it’s kept |
|---|---|---|
| Your device’s location, if you allow it | To show events, classes and places near you and how far away they are | On your device only. It isn’t collected in the background. |
| A ZIP code, if you enter one | To use that area instead of your location | On your device only |
| Your settings: age groups, distance and the Free/Paid filter | To remember your choices next time | On your device only |
| Saved copies of event listings | So the app loads quickly and works with a weak signal | On your device. They’re refreshed every few hours. |
The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or payment details, and there is no sign-in.
Services the app contacts
The app has no server of its own. To show results, it requests public information directly from the services below. Some of these requests include a location (your coordinates or ZIP code) or a map area. They never include your name or anything else that identifies you.
- Google Places shows ratings and reviews for a place and finds more places near you. The request includes the area you’re searching. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) finds parks, playgrounds and places in the area on screen. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
- Zippopotam.us turns a ZIP code into a map location.
- somewheretobe.app supplies the list of public libraries. The app downloads the list for your state, so the request names a state but not where you are in it, and we don’t log who downloads it.
- Public event calendars run by libraries, towns, parks departments and class providers supply their event listings. These requests don’t include your location.
- Apple Maps draws the map. When you tap Directions, the app opens Apple Maps or Google Maps, and that app’s privacy policy applies.
Like any internet request, these services can see your device’s IP address. They handle it under their own privacy policies.
What we don’t do
- We don’t collect, store or keep a history of your location.
- We don’t sell or share information with advertisers, data brokers or anyone else.
- We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools that collect personal information.
Keeping and deleting your information
Everything the app saves stays on your device until you delete the app. Deleting the app removes it all. Because we don’t hold any information about you, there’s no account to close and nothing for us to delete. If you have a question about this, email us.
Your choices
You can stop sharing your location at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Somewhere. The app keeps working if you enter a ZIP code instead.
Children
Somewhere To Be helps families find activities for kids, but it’s made for parents and caregivers to use. It doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
This website
The Libraries near you page works out distances in your browser. If you use your location, it never leaves your device; if you enter a ZIP code, that ZIP is sent to Zippopotam.us to find its map location. This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security. If you email us, we use your email only to reply to you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date at the top.
